LOUISIANA ADOPTIONS

State of Hawaii post adoption search services

Louisiana Adoptions 1980 - 2002

Born in Louisiana and adopted?

Are you an adoptee born in Louisiana and searching for your birth parents? Or did you surrender a baby born in Louisiana during 1980-2002?  If so, we can help you locate each other privately and confidentially.  We've reunited to date over 85 Louisiana adoption cases.

Birth Mothers and Fathers

For birth parents – did you answer an ad in the newspaper and were sent to Louisiana to give birth during 1984-2000? Or did an attorney or doctor advise you to go to Louisiana to give birth? Did you give birth in Eunice, Mamou, Opelauous, Lafayette, or Baton Rouge? A partial list of attorneys that assisted with the adoptions was Kent DeJean, Kenneth Pitre, A. Bruce Rozas, McGee, Manuel, Nina Broyles, and H. Michael Aaron. A partial list of the hospitals used was Moosa, Savoy, and Woman’s Hospitals.
Another name associated with the adoptions was a baby broker named Richard Gitelman, aka Richard Gettleman Richard Gittelman, who owned National Adoption.  Gitelman lived in New York and Florida and had connections with many families on the East Coast. Many of these children were born in Louisiana and adopted, then taken to New York, New Jersey, and Florida. Gitelman published ads in the newspapers across the United States to find pregnant women who needed care and support during their pregnancy. In return, Richard Gitelman would place the child in a family that he or the other lawyers preselected.
** These adoptions were not illegal. The families and attorneys just used the loose adoption laws in Louisiana to get around waiting years on adoption lists in other states. Birth mothers and fathers needed help, and families wanted babies.
We have a support group on Facebook entitled Gitelman Louisiana Adoption.
